January

Standard

Our January as been a lot of fun and very busy!  We’ve been keeping busy with play dates, Gymboree and music classes, and a few other fun outings.  I took Baby Boy to a really neat story time at a local Austin bookstore.  They read stories about animals, then let the kids hold and pet animals.  They took the kids back to a separate, gated-off area to see the animals in groups of 10.  We were in the 2nd group, and Baby Boy was pretty excited after seeing what the first group did.  When it was our turn, we went in and sat on a little stool.  Baby Boy sat in my lap and we put a thick mat on his lap.  Then they put a bunny on the mat.  Baby Boy thought this part was awesome.  The bunny sat very still except for its very wiggly nose which gave him the giggles.  Baby Boy gently petted the bunny, and he was gentle with the hedgehog and chinchilla they brought by.  He was doing so well with the animals they the animal handler brought over a tortoise.  She took the bunny out of his lap and set down the tortoise.  We were doing okay with the tortoise until the tortoise started to move.  That is when Baby Boy panicked.  He wanted it out of his lap right then.  He started saying, “No no no Mommy!  Big bug!  No big bug!”  I tried to keep him calm while trying to get the lady’s attention.  We probably had the tortoise in our lap for a minute, but man if felt much longer.  After that he was done with the animals.  Sorry I didn’t get any pictures of him with the animals.

A lot of things are entertaining when you're 2 years old. He had fun watching the lawn crew mow the yard.

John and Baby Boy randomly stumbled on a free children's concert at a local coffee house. The coffee house has free children's music performances on Saturday mornings. There's about 6 or 8 different performers that rotate through.

We've had some really nice days and some really cold days. On one of the colder afternoons, Baby Boy was drawing. (He prefers to draw with pens instead of crayons.) When he finished this one, he told me it was a giraffe. Unlike a lot of his work, this actually looks like a giraffe. He also really likes to draw trains. Those generally require a bit of squinting to make out a train. :-)

We ended the month with colds all around and a trip to Urgent Care for Baby Boy one night.  He was coughing so hard his was causing him to turn purple and throw up.  The doctor said it was allergies + cold + ear infections that was making him so miserable.
